[This report does not necessarily reflect the views of the United Nations]
JOHANNESBURG, 4 November (PLUSNEWS) - Botswana's President Festus Mogae pledged to tackle HIV/AIDS and poverty as he began his second and final term as leader earlier this week, telling the National Assembly that the situation demanded urgent action.
Agence France Presse quoted Mogae as saying: "We have a contract and a common purpose to eradicate poverty, create employment and combat the scourge of HIV/AIDS."
Botswana has the world's second highest HIV prevalence rate with an estimated 38 percent of adults living with HIV/AIDS.
