SOUTH AFRICA: Dating service destigmatising HIV/AIDS
[ This report does not necessarily reflect the views of the United Nations]
JOHANNESBURG, 1 June (PLUSNEWS) - A new South African online dating service aims to help people living with HIV/AIDS find love while destigmatising the disease.
Ben Sassman, founder of The Positive Connection, got the idea after several HIV-positive friends mentioned how difficult dating had become.
"The guys always told me about women they would meet, but once they went out, they had to disclose their status. Then the woman would usually leave and they wouldn't get a second date," Sassman said in a statement.
Sassman hopes the dating service will take away the anguish of disclosure, because everyone online is living with HIV/AIDS.
