UGANDA: Adults leading with HIV infection numbers - survey

JOHANNESBURG, 1 February (PLUSNEWS) - HIV/AIDS infection rates have shifted from Uganda's youth to older people, the latest population-based national sero survey has revealed.
Findings showed that the highest infection rates were now being found among people aged between 35 and 40, in contrast to the last five years when youths aged 15 to 19 years were most affected.
Dr David Apuuli, director-general of the Uganda AIDS Commission, released the results at an annual forum held outside the capital, Kampala, and warned that the findings bore the signature of a failing battle against the pandemic.
The local New Vision newspaper quoted Apuuli as saying, "We thought we were doing well in the fight against AIDS, but ... we are not getting on top of it."
